HCA: Apple Health Provider Alert

Attention: Orthodontic and Oral Surgeon Apple Health (Medicaid) Providers:

Effective for dates of service on or after March 1,  2024: The Healthcare Authority (HCA) Apple Health dental program will no longer require prior authorization, nor expedited prior authorization for patients 20 years of age and younger for the CDT® codes: Placement of device to facilitate eruption of impacted tooth (CDT® code D7283) and Exposure of unerupted tooth (CDT® code D7280).

Providers can expect to see this change reflected in the Dental-Related Services Program Billing Guide to be published for April 1, 2024.

Medicaid Transition to Managed Care Cancelled

The 2019 Legislature has directed the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) to continue to administer the dental Medicaid program through fee-for-service. The HCA may not proceed with a carved-out or carved-in managed care dental option at this time.
