Orthodontic Services – Prior Authorization Requests for CDT® Code D8670

The Health Care Authority (HCA) recently sent the following alert to dental Medicaid providers.

Apple Health (Medicaid) Provider Alert

Reminder! You must submit a prior authorization request for CDT® code D8670 when a client is banded on or after October 1, 2020.

If you are submitting a prior authorization for a limitation extension or transfer for a client who was banded before October 1, 2020, please use the appropriate orthodontic treatment CDT® code, such as D8020, D8030, or D8080.

Medicaid Transition to Managed Care Cancelled

The 2019 Legislature has directed the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) to continue to administer the dental Medicaid program through fee-for-service. The HCA may not proceed with a carved-out or carved-in managed care dental option at this time.
